  • Connor Mcquade (Gr. 12)

    Team Captain

    Connor is a high school student with a strong passion for helping others learn. As he continues his second year in the FIRST Robotics Competition, he applies his rational thinking and leadership to all aspects of the team. Connor’s other hobbies include golfing, skiing, climbing, reading, and archery.

  • Nyrin Woelfle (Gr. 12)

    Project Manager, Electrical Lead, Safety Captain

    Nyrin is the electrical lead and project manager for the team. He has a strong interest in engineering and hands on building, often spending his time working on DIY projects and robotics. As a project manager, he enjoys organizing tasks, solving problems, and keeping the team on track. Outside of robotics, Nyrin enjoys mountain biking, 3D printing, and climbing.

  • Benjamin Tippett (Gr. 11)

    Software Lead

    Benjamin has been doing programming since he was in grade 2. He has written several games in the past, mostly for fun, but this is his first time programming a real robot. Aside from programming, he is very good at math and science in school, and he enjoys playing piano, trombone, and the trading card game “Magic the Gathering”.

  • Brennan M. (Gr. 8)

    Mechanical Team

    This is Brennan’s first year competing in the First Robotics Competition. Brennan is passionate about keeping the Earth clean and making eco-friendly inventions. Outside of robotics, Brennan likes to play chess, watching/playing soccer, mathematics, writing fictional stories, reading historical fiction, and playing video games like Minecraft.

  • Stefan L. (Gr. 8)

    Software Team

    This is Stefan’s first year on a First Robotics Competition team! He is a 13 year old homelearner diving into learning Java! He is very excited to experience being on a team and contributing while having fun. Stefan enjoys playing musical instruments, baking, and swordplay.

  • Jacob Tippet (Gr. 7)

    Software Team

    Jacob has been doing programming since grade 3, and he was taught by his brother Benjamin. He has programmed mostly for fun making games and other programs, and he is excited for this chance to do something important with his programming skill. Other than programming, Jacob also plays trumpet and piano and he enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons and the trading card game “Magic the Gathering”.

    Mechanical Lead, Website Designer

    This is John’s second year participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition. He has a long-standing passion for innovation and design, often transforming recycled materials into creative and functional projects. Outside of robotics, John enjoys studying mathematics and writing fictional stories. In his free time, he likes to play basketball, chess, and piano.

  • George Tseng

    Lead Mentor

    George is passionate about turning ideas into real-world solutions and guiding teams through the full journey. He holds a BASc in Electrical & Computer Engineering from UBC, MS in Electrical Engineering & MS in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford. Before mentoring, he worked at Cisco Systems and Faraday Technology, developing and bringing to market complex systems and SoCs.

  • Christopher Maddocks

    Software Mentor

    Chris is a software developer, engineering manager, product leader, and business owner. Today, he builds solutions for the commercial transportation industry, together with his business partner and a talented team. In his spare time, he enjoys learning languages and making music with his kids.

  • Christian Melendez

    Software Mentor

    Chris is a software engineer and educator who currently works at Evotrux and is the co-founder of Raven Support Network. Prior to mentoring at Blue Lightning, he taught robotics and programming. During university, he participated in robotics competitions like FIRA Hurocup and IROS. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, cooking, and tasting different cuisines.
